TYPOGRAPHY PROJECT
This typographic project was a process driven unit which resulted in creating two modular typefaces from two different starting points. For 'Stroke3' I decided to use electrical tape as my stimulus and for 'Clip Sans' I was inspired by the forms of a paperclip.
Stroke3, Typography Specimen 1
Starting with electrical tape to design my modular typeface, I then interpreted it using cotton tape to present it as a woven piece.

Stroke3, Digitised Typeface
With the electrical tape, I created a modular construct using three vertical and six horizontal plains. This gave me the flexibility to create Stroke3.

Clip Sans, Typography Specimen 2
Inspired by the paperclip itself, I decided to show my typeface printed on paper, in the form of a booklet specimen.

Clip Sans
I chose to maintain the integrity of the paperclips form, without bending or manipulating its structure. This discipline encouraged me to be more creative with some of the more complex letters.

Typography Sketchbook Development
Clip Sans (left) I began sketching different objects, exploring their structures to see which could be best interpreted as a modular typeface. I selected the paperclip for its simple rounded forms and variety of shapes.
Stroke3 (right) In the creative development process, my designs evolved from using electrical tape, to drawn, to painted and finally to fabric.

15PERCENT PROTEST
Before Boris insulted our nurses declaring that a 1% pay rise is 'as much as we can give', I was concerned that the incredible efforts of our nurses would be forgotten and their claims for a pay rise ignored by the government. The Nurses Union had already been protesting for a 15% pay rise and ‘15percent’ is a protest movement to support their demand for a 15% pay rise.
At a time when we are unable to gather, I created a 15% logo device, which could be featured on a series of products and signage, and would allow us all to take the nurses cause onto the streets.
15percent Protest Video
I created a video to explain the objective of the 15percent protest so it could be shared on social media and encourage others to join the protest on behalf of our nurses.
15percent Print Advertisement
I used a newspaper format to create impact and explain the purpose behind the 15percent protest in more detail. To evoke the sense of mass protest, I showed multiple portraits of people wearing t-shirts and masks, featuring the 15% logo.

15percent Street Posters
During Covid, posters felt like an effective way to communicate with people at street level as they went about their lockdown routine. The primary purpose was to encourage people to join the protest and purchase t-shirts or masks at 15percent.com.

15percent Sketchbook Development
Researching the issues surrounding Covid, I discovered that our nurses are significantly underpaid and were campaigning for a 15% pay rise. I realised this important issue was getting lost in the heart of the pandemic, and I felt that we should do more to support their cause.
ARCHETYPAL OBJECTS
‘Graphic Objects’ explored the semiotics of archetypal objects and considers how they are used to create a narrative in design and photography. Crafting scaled replicas of my chosen objects led me to photograph them in different context, to change their meaning and offer a new perspective.
Archetypal Casserole Pot
I chose the unmistakable shape and colour of the 'Le Creuset' Casserole Pot to interpret in a paper and card model. By scaling the object down, I was able to fundamentally change its context, while maintaining its essence.

Archetypal Espresso Maker
By scaling the object up, I was able to change its perception within a kitchen environment. Using photography I was able to exaggerate the perspective and scale further.

'MIGRATE' ANIMATION
'Migrate’ is a stop-motion animation created to explore the theme of Guilty Pleasures. Paired up in a client/ designer dynamic, I was asked to create a short moving image piece to express my client’s guilty pleasure. This short film follows a young Russian designer as she travels from Moscow to New York and the creative awakening she experiences when she arrived.
'Migrate' Stop Motion Animation
Using paper cutouts I wanted to create a simple narrative using the motif of eyes to reflect my clients creative awakening. Changing an eye to a fish and monochrome to colour to explain her creative journey.
Sketchbook Storyboard
I was exploring how sound, motion and illustration can work together to tell a story.

PART ONE DIAGNOSTIC
The Diagnostic section of my Foundation course allowed me to explore and experiment the different realms of Art and Design. It encouraged me to develop a more experimental approach with my work. In the process, my interests expanded from craft-based disciplines, to the wide-ranging opportunities within Graphic Design and Communication.
One Day Jewellery Project, Scaffold Grills
For this project I explored the concept of 'jewellery wearing the person', as opposed to 'the person wearing jewellery'.

One Day Jewellery Project, Sugar Shards
I wanted to use something as mundane as sugar to create an elegant piece of jewellery. I chose to show it in a fashion editorial context, to heighten the contrast between the original material and the final outcome.

One Day Ideas Project, Water / Knot / Tension
An installation using water / knots / tension as stimulus. I manipulated the scale to create the impression of it being an immersive, underground experience; evoking the idea of intertwining roots.

One Day Textiles Project, Connecting Objects
I used repeat pattern and printing to manipulate photography and create the visualisation of connected branches.
With 'hope' as my starting point, I explored the idea that during the pandemic we trust the government, not because we expect the truth but because we need them to give us hope.
To highlight this conflict, I installed cutout letters to create contrast between the word 'truth' in silhouette and the word 'trust' in daylight.
One Day Graphic Design Project, 'you trust not to just gain the truth'

One Day 4D Project, Isolation Suck It Up
To express the emotions behind a recent relationship breakup, I used film to show how I was hiding my emotions. By reversing, slowing down and looping the action of a falling tear, I exaggerated the repetitive emotional cycle I was feeling.
